First of all the kung fu in the West took root only after the 1960, but western culture is not like Eastern where everything is based about kung fu philosophy; the first seems be intolerant to the rigid rules of the martial art, the effort is borne little and badly, it is difficult to give the necessary respect as to people as to tradition own and the other, this just in the second half of last century.
Today, this issue has widened even more, in fact, for example, tends to take the car to move for a kilometer, or find information on the Internet with just a click (which is very useful certainly do not deny it) but once we would have taken months of study books and libraries to find what you were looking for and perhaps we would not find, or you go to the supermarket and you can find everything we need, all without sweat.
We lost the taste of struging to get things; and that taste has a mobile phone purchased with money earned with our work? taste that has the promotion at school, or examination without the classmate or friend passes us the solution (or internet)? that taste is employed successfully even if they do not tell "good, congratulations!" that we have worked with all the soul? are questions that many or few they could not answer.
This concept of effort is missing in our society but for kung fu is absolutely necessary, missing one fundamental concept the western misunderstand perfectly the culture, the philosophy of the martial art, therefore it is used only like phisical sport and sometimes even worse, using the technique that the master teach us inappropriately, not only the practical technique, but also the morality of same.
There are people that know all practical technique very well, can also arrive to have the forth, fifth dan after black belt, but came to have the knowledge they need to apply them to the fullest. Some will not get there, others with difficulty and after many years...
